"I was hired as the Flood Recovery Manager for Whatcom County Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management in February of 2022 in response to the devastating flood that impacted Whatcom County in November 2021. That flood affected over 2,000 families in our communities and causedillions of dollars in damages. My role is to coordinate and lead the long recovery process by connecting individuals and families to any and all available resources. I work closely with government agencies, the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group, Whatcom Community Foundation, Churches, Non-profit organizations and local businesses to help find support for these flood survivors."

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training  - Whatcom County

In the basic training course we deliver 24 hours of instruction (usually one 3-hour class per week for 8 weeks) that are a combination of classroom work and hands-on exercises. The course concludes with a simulated disaster in which the students demonstrate their skills with live victims. The topics covered in the eight sessions include:

Session 1: Disaster Preparedness, Hazard Mitigation, Local Vulnerabilities
Session 2: Fire Safety, Fire Suppression, Utility Controls
Session 3: Disaster Medical Operations, Part 1 (Triage, Life Saving Interventions)
Session 4: Light Search & Rescue Operations
Session 5: Disaster Medical Operations, Part 2 (Public Health & Hygiene, Head to Toe Assessment, Basic Treatments)
Session 6: Disaster Psychology & CERT Organization
Session 7: Table Top Exercise & Final Exam
Session 8: Final Exercise (Simulated Disaster Response)
